Notifications
Zeeker delivers notifications across three channels: in-app, push (PWA / mobile), and email.
In-app
The bell icon shows your unread count and opens the notifications tray. The tray loads one bounded page of notification history newest-first, independently of the lightweight unread-count check used by the bell. Load more follows the server continuation; opening the tray never downloads the account's complete notification history. Items include:
| Type | Includes |
|---|---|
| Mentions | @you in posts and replies |
| Replies | Replies to your posts |
| Reactions | Reactions on your posts and replies |
| Follows | New followers, follow requests, and approvals |
| Communities | Community invites, join approvals, mod actions on you |
| Messages | Direct messages and community chat activity |
| System | Account changes, security alerts |
Notifications are coalesced, for example, "5 people reacted to your post" rather than five separate rows.
Push
Web push is supported in browsers that allow it (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari 16.4+). Enable it from Settings → Notifications → Web push.
Push notifications are sent for the highest-priority events only:
- Mentions
- Direct replies to your post
- DM messages
- Community admin invites
The throttle is "no more than one push every 60 seconds per user".
Email
Email digests are off by default. From Settings → Notifications → Email, you can enable:
- Daily summary — one email per day at 9am local time
- Weekly digest — one email per week (Sundays, 9am local)
- Important alerts only — mentions and DMs
Every email contains an unsubscribe footer and a one-click pause for 30 days.
Community emails
When you join a community, the join confirmation explains that the community may send occasional emails and shows the community rules you are agreeing to follow.
From Settings -> Notifications -> Community Emails, each joined community appears by name with its own toggle. Turn a community off to stop receiving community emails from that community while staying a member.
Community admins can only send member emails to members who still have that community's email toggle enabled.
Read state
Opening an item marks it as read. Use Mark all read to reset the unread counter, or Clear to remove notification history. A required quarterly policy reminder remains in history after it is read and disappears when history is cleared; it is issued only once for each quarterly campaign.
Notification preferences
Each event class is independently controllable per channel:
| In-app | Push | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Mentions | ✓ | ✓ | optional |

| Reposts | ✓ | optional | optional |

Mobile parity
Swipe directly on a notification row to scroll the tray. The tray stays open while you scroll; tapping outside closes it without activating content underneath.
The PWA installable from zeeker.com registers a service worker that handles web push and offline composer drafts.
