Explore preferences

Explore preferences tune what appears in the Social and Explore feeds. In Social, open the sliders/preferences control from the feed. In the standalone Explore viewer, open More from the bottom action bar and choose Tune your feed.

What you can control

PreferenceEffect
Following onlyShows posts from people you follow and communities you joined or follow, using the currently selected Trending, Popular, or Recent order.
Hide external postsHides news and other third-party source posts.
LocationUses separate Country and City dropdowns. New preferences start in Automatic mode; changing either dropdown creates a manual choice.
TopicsShows only posts matching at least one selected topic: News & Politics, Business & Finance, Sports, Technology & AI, Entertainment & Culture, Health & Wellness, Science & Environment, or Food & Travel.

Location determines which geographic news is eligible. A selected country excludes posts explicitly assigned to another country, while World coverage and posts without a country remain eligible. A selected city also excludes news explicitly classified as local to another city. For example, choosing India → Hyderabad keeps Hyderabad local news and broader national or World stories, while excluding Bengaluru-only local weather. A city mentioned in a national story does not by itself make that story local-only. When a summary is backed entirely by reporting explicitly limited to another city, it is excluded even if it was published in a general News edition.

Location and topics work together: a post must meet the selected location rules and match at least one selected topic. For example, United States → New York + Sports includes New York sports and relevant national or World sports, while excluding unrelated business news and local-only coverage from another city. Multiple selected topics broaden the topic choices; clearing all topics removes the topic restriction. Trending, Popular, and Recent order the posts that remain eligible.

Location starts on Automatic, using an approximate network location when it is available. The picker lists only countries and cities with active news coverage. It currently supports India, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. If an automatically detected country or city is not supported, Zeeker falls back to a broad, non-filtering feed instead of presenting an empty preference.

Changing the country resets the city to All cities, so a city or region from the previous country is never carried across accidentally. All cities includes local news from across the selected country; it does not remove the country preference. After you select a country or city, that choice persists and later detection does not replace it. Choose Use detected location to return to Automatic mode. Zeeker never requests or stores an exact street address for feed preferences.

The Following only feed can load older posts from followed people and joined communities without a fixed one- or two-week age cutoff. Trending and Popular still determine the order.

These location rules also apply to Current News summaries and publisher news cards in Social and Explore. The City dropdown shows the locations with active local news coverage for the selected country. The same topic restrictions apply to Trending lists and their related-post pages. A broad News or Local publishing label does not make an unrelated article match a selected subject. Science & Environment includes science coverage; Technology & AI covers technology. If matching coverage is sparse, Zeeker continues looking through older candidates rather than filling the page with unrelated topics.

Sync across Zeeker

On Zeeker domains, preferences are shared between zeeker.com and explore.zeeker.com. When signed in, the same preferences are saved to your account and restored in later sessions and on other devices. This includes a manually selected country or city until you choose Use detected location.

Zeeker ID signup uses the same location model: it first tries an approximate automatic location, then shows separate Country and City dropdowns drawn from the active-coverage list. A manual selection remains in place unless Use detected location is chosen. Unsupported automatic locations fall back to the broad feed. Signup also offers the same topic choices shown in Explore: News & Politics, Business & Finance, Sports, Technology & AI, Entertainment & Culture, Health & Wellness, Science & Environment, and Food & Travel. Topics selected during signup seed the matching preference topics. Skipping topics leaves the existing Explore choices unchanged.

Changes apply to the next request immediately, including clearing all topics or turning a filter off, while the account save completes. A new signed-in session can inherit saved preferences until a local choice is made. If a browser blocks shared cookies, each app keeps a local copy and the signed-in backend copy restores alignment when available.

Community-specific preferences

Opening preferences from a community keeps those choices scoped to that community. Community controls can include:

  • Default post order: Trending, Popular, or Recent.
  • Whether that community may send you community email.

Changing a community-specific preference does not overwrite your global location, topic, or feed filters.

Resetting the feed

Clear selected topics to include all subjects that meet your other feed preferences. Choose Use detected location below the location controls to return to automatic location detection. Turn off Following only and Hide external posts to restore the full eligible feed.

Community access rules still apply: preferences never reveal unlisted content in global discovery or private-community posts to non-members.
